Piercing Aftercare

 Body Piercing Healing Instructions:

  • Always wash your hands thoroughly using anti-bacterial, anti-microbial soap (such as Provon or Unscented Gold Dial) prior to cleaning or touching your piercing.

  • Using a fresh lather of your anti-bacterial soap, clean jewelry and piercing thoroughly no less than Twice a day. If there are “crusties” around the entrance or exit holes of your piercing, use a warm compress to loosen them (do not pick them off dry, as this can irritate healing tissue)

  • Rinse completely to remove all traces of soap from the piercing.

  • Dry by gently patting with a clean paper towel (cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry)

Oral Piercing Healing Instructions

  • For the exterior of the mouth follow the body piercing instructions

  • Rinse mouth Four to Five times daily with anti-septic mouthwash for Thirty to Sixty seconds. rinse after meals, after smoking, before and after bedtime.

What is normal?

  • For the first Three to Five days: significant swelling, light bleeding, bruising, and/or tenderness, light secretion of a whitish/yellow fluid (not puss).

  • A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in, and although it feels healed the tissue remains fragile on the inside.

  • Be patient and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.

What to avoid:

  • Do not play with the jewelry during healing process.

  • Avoid using any cleaning products other than anti-bacterial/ anti-microbial soaps or a saline solution (A quarter teaspoon of sea salt per Eight ounces of distilled warm water).

  • Avoid applying any ointments or beauty/ personal care products around the piercing. Avoid submerging the piercing in unhygienic bodies of water (pools, hot tubs, lakes, etc).
